As a Sommelier, Kellie also has a passion for wine and has put together a few great pairings for your next summer gathering or celebration.
Steamed lobster is best paired with a Dry Reisling: Herman j. Wiemer- Finger Lakes, NY, – Light-bodied, fruity with a hint of grapefruit. A riesling has fruity notes with high acidity and works wonderful with lobster, especially if it’s a dry riesling. It typically makes a remarkable pairing for sautéd, baked, or broiled lobster dishes.
Grilled Shrimp with goat cheese salad is fantastic with Rosé Champagne: Veuve Clicquot- France,- Vibrant acidity, Juicy with a hint of strawberry, ginger, and white peach. I love pairing my Rosé Champagne with a light salad on a summer day. The bubbles in the Champagne bring out the flavors in a creamy cheese such as goat. Rosé Champagne compliments shrimp because of the roasty and savory flavors.
Salmon with fresh herbs is delightful with Sauvignon Blanc: Kim Crawford- Marlborough, New Zealand, – Medium-bodied, tropical fruit flavors with vibrant acidity. A crisp Sauvignon Blanc, one particular from the Marlborough region of New Zealand is the perfect pairing for salmon when prepared with herbs such as a dill butter sauce. The high acidity and grassy character of the wine bring balance to the fattiness of the salmon and complement the herbs used in its preparation.
